About Me
I was born in Guildford, Surrey U.K in 1976 and I now reside in Sydney Australia. I am a self taught sculptor with a background of Traditional Blacksmithing and a passion for all things steel. As a young boy I became fascinated by nature and animals, so would often spend hours creating detailed pencil sketches which later developed into a passion to create 3D sculptures when I got a job as a Traditional Blacksmith in a local Forge.
Everything about working with steel is appealing to me, the smell, the heat, the colour change as the metal heats up and then cools and I become very exited about the endless possibilities of creating lots of small parts or mini sculptures and consolidating them into a larger piece, like fingers on a hand or lips & eyes on a face.
Expressing emotions isn't always that easy, so for me art is extremely expressive - from arduous cutting and grinding to intricate elaborate work & always with gentle love and care, it feels both primal and neoteric.
The incubation or narrative period of my process is often the most exciting as I mull over ideas and problem solve as I prepare to start a project, looking forward to the challenges and excited for the result of my art creating pleasure in it's new home.
All of my pieces are hand made using reclaimed steel - no casts or moulds, just a welder, cutter & grinder and a lot of elbow grease, which makes each piece of art I create a one of a kind custom piece that takes a great amount of time and loving care to create.
